| NAI group on Neurorehabilitation Services
To ensure a voice for all its members in the development of the national rehabilitation strtegy, the NAI established a working group on neurorehabilitation in August 2008.
Following an an agreement with the Chairman of the National Rehabilitation Strategy, Mr James O'Grady, the NAI working group would coordinate the input of its members into the national strategy and provide ongoing feedback as the strategy came together.
Patricia McLarty, Specialist in Disability Services with the HSE, was assigned to work with the NAI group which carried out the following:
1. A project to map the typical service journey of a person with a neurological condition to identify gaps and transition points in the treatment pathway
2. National conference on Neurorehabilitation organised by the NAI in association with the Department of Health and Children in December 2008
3. Submission to the National Rehabilitation Strategy January 2009

The Department of Health and Children have committed to the publication of the national rehabilitation strategy in 2010 following the development of an implementation plan by the Health Services Executive.
The NAI emphasises the urgent need to publish and implement the strategy in order to address the ongoing critical lack of access to specialist neurorehabilitation for people with neurological conditions in this country. | |
