Representatives from the "We Need Our Heads Examined" campaign held their second meeting with Minister for Health Simon Harris last Thursday in Leinster House.

Following the Ministers announcement on February 15th at ABI Ireland National Carers Conference that he aimed to have a revised implementation plan for the National Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy published by this summer, "We Need Our Heads Examined" stressed the need for this plan to be fit for purpose and address significant concerns around scope, governance and accountability and clear timeframes around implementation.

Campaign representatives also highlighted the need to publish the national trauma strategy without delay, given the lack of neuro-rehabilitation services at all stages of the care pathway for people with neurological conditions. The issue of bed closures at the National Rehabilitation Hospital was also raised.

The Minister agreed to a further meeting with campaign representatives in May and reiterated his commitment to achieving progress in addressing the lack of neuro-rehabilitation services, particularly in the community.
