NAI welcomes the commitments to neuro-rehabilitation outlined in the National Disability Inclusion Strategy launched today

· Page 31, Action 65 - "We will develop policy advice for consideration by relevant Government Departments based on international research, to guide the development and implementation of a national programme for vocational rehabilitation, with due regard to the neuro-rehabilitation strategy and other medical rehabilitation programmes as appropriate"

Timeframe for Delivery: Q 1 2018

· Page 36, Action 82 - "We will develop an implementation framework for the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy making links to National Clinical Programmes for Medical Rehabilitation and make a major capital investment in the National Rehabilitation Hospital"

Timeframe for Delivery: Q 3 2017

We are concerned, however, that the commitment to develop an implementation framework for the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy is simply a restatement of the commitment in the programme for Government and does not include a commitment to implementation and investment.

The strategy outlines a broad series of proposals for improving access to employment, education, transport, person centred disability services and supports to enable people with disabilities to live in their communities.

NAI is concerned that many of the actions in the strategy are vague or general in nature and lack any sort of detail as to how they will be implemented.
