The number of people waiting for a first time appointment to see a neurologist has increased significantly over the past year with 10, 115 people waiting more than six months according to May 2017 figures.

This contrasts with a figure of 6, 568 in April last year.

The ongoing steady rise in waiting times is of serious concern, with a total of

18, 592 now waiting on a first time appointment.

NAI's national audit of neurology services, published in 2016, showed staffing shortages across all neurology centres nationwide, resulting in long waiting times and pressure on services.
