Magdalen holds a Bachelors degree in psychology and an MSc by research from Trinity College Dublin on quality of life and marital relationships following acquired brain injury.She won the annual award for research involving adults in recognition of her MSc work, at the Fourth World Congress on Brain Injury in Turin Italy in 2001.

Her interest in neurological conditions dates from the earliest days of her career, beginning as an assistant neuropsychologist in Beaumont Hospital. Since then, she has worked with Headway and subsequently with the Health Research Board before joining the Neurological Alliance in 2003.

Her main interest lies in developing understanding of the needs of people with neurological conditions accross the health and disability sector in Ireland. Having established the NAI as the lead co-ordinator of National Brain Awareness Week, she is also focused on developing this initiative as a vital opportunity to create awareness of neurological conditions in Ireland.
