23.7.2018: Invest in Neurology Campaign Calls for €3m investment in neurology services in Budget 2019
The "Invest in Neurology" campaign has called for 3m investment in neurology services in 2019 to tackle the crisis in Ireland's neurology services which has seen waiting lists for a first time appointment to see a neurologist at their highest ever.
The Neurological Alliance of Ireland Pre Budget Submission outlines how the funding will be spent by the National Clinical Programme in Neurology, including:
1. Appointing consultant neurologists in services that are critically understaffed, including in regional centres and areas of the country which currently do not have a neurology service
2. Appointing clinical nurse specialists to begin to address the significant shortages in Ireland compared to minimum recommended numbers for our population
3. Development of the motor neurone disease clinic in Beaumont Hospital as a demonstration site for the management of rare neurological disease. Early diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions is vital, specialist clinics have been shown to fasttrack diagnosis and significantly improve outcomes for patients.
As part of its pre-budget campaign, Invest in Neurology has contacted all elected representatives calling for their support for these asks in the upcoming Budget.
