The Neurological Alliance of Ireland supports the concerns of its member organisation, Epilepsy Ireland, in relation to the ongoing lack of functioning epilepsy monitoring beds in this country, despite considerable investment in redeveloping these units in 2012.

On 5th February, the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly was questioned by Deputy Billy Kelleher on why these new units remain unopened and when the necessary personnel will become available

The Minister responded that recruitment for these posts was being prioritised between the HSE and the hospitals concerned.

The full text of the Minister's reply, as well as a HSE statement on the issue can be found on Epilepsy Ireland's website at http://www.epilepsy.ie/index.cfm/spKey/news.brainwave/spId/66589A92-6249-4F92-A053D1D7CBB6C5EC.html
