13.3.2023 NAI Briefs Oireachtas Members Ahead of National Brain Awareness Week

The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) brought together over fifty representatives from all across Ireland last week to brief Oireachtas members ahead of National Brain Awareness Week March 13th to 19th.
The briefing, hosted by Colm Burke TD, heard from the four national clinical programmes for neurology, stroke, dementia and rehabilitation medicine, together with individual patient advocates, highlighting the need for dedicated neurorehabilitation teams in the community for people with neurological conditions.
In her opening address, NAI Executive Director Mags Rogers said "We're here today as a community of patient organisations, leading Clinicians and, most importantly, people with lived experience of neurological conditions from across Ireland who have come together with a single voice and a single ask: that people with neurological conditions should have access to a community neurorehabilitation team".
A number of Oireachtas members spoke in support of the Patients Deserve Better campaign, which is calling for a network of 9 community neurorehabilitation teams nationwide, in line with the 2019 implementation framework for the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy.
