16.6.2013 Patients Deserve Better Campaign Already Delivering on Community Neurorehabilitation Teams
The Neurological Alliance of Ireland Patients Deserve Better campaign has completed a series of six regional launch events, calling for a community neurorehabilitation team to be established in each of the nine HSE CHO areas throughout the country.
Only 2 teams are up and running despite the recommendation in the 2019 Implementation Framework for the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy, a key commitment in the current Programme for Government, to establish a team in each of the nine CHO areas.
The Patients Deserve Better campaign, supported by 22 NAI member organisations, was launched in November 2022 and since then has resulted in:
-More than 10,000 e mails sent from the Patients Deserve Better website
-Over 80 Parliamentary Questions from TDS and still growing
-AV room presentation 9th March this year and meeting with Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly
-Presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on Health 17th May, Response from HSE CEO and Chief Clinical Officer to Questions on the Neurorehabilitation Strategy from the Health Committee 24th May
The campaign has so far resulted in real progress in individual CHO areas including:
-Securing funding for teams in CHO s 2 and 4m as announced by Minister for Disability Anne Rabbittee on May 10th this year
-Securing funding in 2023 to enable full teams to be recruited in CHOs 6 and 7
The NAI pre budget submission, launching on 27th June, includes a call for funding to fully staff a community neurorehabilitation team in each of the 9 CHOs across the country.
