ABI Ireland today launched the Essential Brain Injury Guide, the result of a collaborative project with the Brain Injury Association of America. The guide provides the first edition of the Certified Brain Injury Specialist Programme to be developed outside the US and means that ABI Ireland is leading the way in Europe in adapting this programme for Irish trainees.

The guide contains a wealth of information on understanding the brain and brain injury, including medical, social, family and legal issues.

Speaking at the event, Kathleen Lynch TD, Minister of State for Disability, spoke of the importance of the guide in ensuring that Ireland tackles stigma and misunderstanding in relation to brain injury.

Barbara O Connell, CEO of ABI Ireland, spoke of the extent of the collaborative effort in bringing the publication together, with ABI Ireland staff working with American Partners and medical, legal and social care experts throughout Ireland in delivering a comprehensive resource for those working in ABI rehabilitation as well as those with an acquired brain injury and their families.
