28.8.2017 Stroke Lead Critical of Support for Programme within HSE

 In an article published in the Irish Times on 28th August, the National Clinical Lead for Stroke, Professor Joe Harbison, critiscised the lack of support for the work of the stroke programme which means that Ireland is completely unprepared for a huge increase in stroke in the coming decade. 

Professor Harbison noted that "The majority of patients suffering stroke in Ireland still cannot access what would be considered basic care in most developed countries". 

He also highlighted the issue of access to neuro-rehabilitation, noting that "We cannot appropriately discharge patients who still need rehabilitation where there is no one available in the community to provide rehabilitation.
