The NAI joined with a group of leading mental health and disability organisations today in calling for Budget 2017 to honour committments made in the election campaign and Programme for Government to people with disabilities.

As well as recognising and redressing the significant cuts to disability spending in recent years, the group is also calling on the Government to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities by the end of 2016 and ensure cohesive disability policy implementation accross all Government departments.

The Neurological Alliance of Ireland is happy to support the full statement which can be downloaded below and calls on the Government to prioritise the following in Budget 2017:

1. Improve income, Employment Activation Supports and General Living Standards of People with Disabilities

2. Invest in Disability and Mental Health Specific Services and Infrastructure that Enables People with Disabilities to Live Independently and with Dignity

3. Improve Resourcing of Mainstream Community Infrastructure to Ensure People with Disabilities are able to access these on a par with their non-disabled counterparts.
