Ireland differs greatly from other countries, particularly the UK, in terms of providing housing with care options for people living with dementia.

A report presented recently at the annual meeting of the Irish Gerontological Society examined three sheltered housing schemes in Dublin and Cork developed to support people with dependency needs including dementia.

The report, entitled "Here today, Gone Tomrrow? The Development of Housing with Care for People with Dementia in Ireland" consists of interviews with policy makers and individuals directly involved in the schemes.

Housing with care involves providing older people and those with disabilities greater independence than they would have in a nursing home setting.
