Representatives of the newly established Irish Neurology Nursing Forum (INNF) joined with the Neurological Alliance of Ireland on June 27th to thank Oireachtas members for their support for the 2022 Patients Deserve Better campaign to tackle the shortage of nurse specialists in neurology.

The campaign, which launched in October 2021 and ran until September 2022 saw over 11,000 e mails sent from the dedicated website, while the campaign was referenced in 153 questions and debates across both houses of the Oireachtas and received widespread media coverage: including on RTE six one news in March 2022.

Funding for 23 specialist nurses was announced in Budget 2023, which together with the rollout of the national headache and other pathways, will see a total of 32 new specialist nursing posts created in neurology services this year. NAI's priority is to support the continued work of the Irish Neurology Nursing Forum and the National Clinical Programme in neurology to recruit and train nurses to these new posts. There remains a significant shortfall in neurology nursing and NAI plan to address the remaining shortfall through future campaigns.

Sinead Jordan, a founding member of the INNF addressed NAI members later in the week at the NAI Network meeting to highlight the success of the partnership and look ahead to future collaboration with the national umbrella organisation and its members.
