Todays budget represents a harsh series of cuts and increased charges which will impact significantly on people living with a neurological condition and their families

Direct health and social protection cuts and charges include:

- the respite care grant will be cut from €1,700 to €1375 per recipient.

-tripling of prescription charges for medical card holders, from €.50 to €1.50

-increase in the threshold of the drug payment scheme from €100 in 2010 to €144 in 2013

NAI welcomes the Government's decision to protect disability benefit at current levels and to provide 15m in free GP care for people with certain prescribed illnesses. Committments to restore home help, home care packages and personal assistant hours will be closely watched by NAI as these supports are critical to people with neurological conditions and their families.
