An article in the Irish Medical Times on Friday last noted that outpatient activity in neurology has increased by 9 per cent compared to 2009 figures. The article also highlighted that some 13 additonal consultant neurologists have been approved, seven of whom are already in place.

While the NAI welcomes these improvements, it is concerned that a recent HSE recruitment freeze will affect these new posts.

The NAI point out that we are still not at the Comhairle na nOspideal recommended target of one neurologist per 100,000 population and any pause in recruitment will only prolong this situation.
