'2.11.2022 National Stroke Strategy 2022-2027 Published' image

 The National Stroke Strategy 2022-2027 has been published by the National Clinical Programme for Stroke. Addressing NAI members earlier this year: the National Clinical Lead for Stroke Professor Ronan Collins, highlighted the importance of a national strategy to ensure a comprehensive integrated approach to stroke care and prevention.

"When fully implemented the National Stroke Strategy will be providing an evidence-based care pathway to 92% of the stroke patient population that allows patients to leave hospital earlier and continue their recovery at home with better outcomes for patients and more effective bed use for the health services" (Professor Ronan Collins National Clinical Lead for Stroke).

The four pillars of the National Strategy are:

 

 

 

The Neurological Alliance of Ireland welcomes the strategy but highlights that the development of neurorehabilitation services, particularly in the community, are vital to the recovery and long term positive outcomes for stroke survivors.

 

The Stroke Strategy outlines that every stroke patient should have timely access to the rehabilitation services which best meet their needs. This includes access to the network of community neurorehabilitation teams recommended in the 2019-2021 Implementation Framework for the Neurorehabilitation Strategy.
