24.1.2023 Patients Deserve Better Campaign Launches in the South East

The Patients Deserve Better campaign presented to local elected representatives in CHO 5 on Tuesday 24th January: calling for a community neurorehabilitation team for people with neurological conditions in the South East.

NAI Executive Director, Mags Rogers, highlighted that a team for CHO 5 is recommended in the 2019 Implementation Framework for the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy: a key commitment of both Slaintecare and the current Programme for Government.

Professor Ronan Collins, National Clinical Lead for Stroke, spoke in support of the Patients Deserve Better campaign, highlighting that a nationwide network of community neurorehabilitation teams are required for stroke patients as well as so many other patients diagnosed with a neurological condition.

James Flanagan, a person living with multiple sclerosis spoke of his 140km journey to source neurorehabilitation services in Dublin: only for the service to be postponed due to hospital overcrowding. He outlined the vital difference it would make to have a local community neurorehabilitation team based in the South East.

Mary Casserly, Chairperson of Early Onset Parkinson's Disease Ireland had attended a presentation by the Community Neurorehabilitation Team for CHO 3 and highlighted that this service should be available to people in the South East of the country.
