The terminology of brain health is increasingly being utilised across a range of domains including advocacy, healthcare and research with the World Health Organisation adopting the term which it defines as "the state of brain functioning across cognitive, sensory, social-emotional, behavioural and motor domains, allowing a person to realize their full potential over the life course, irrespective of the presence or absence of disorders".

However there is confusion among patient groups, researchers, industry and even policymakers about what the drive towards brain health means for them.

A new report by the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA), "Brain Health for Neurology: Opportunities and Risks" is very timely given that investment in brain health has been adopted by NAI as the theme for Brain Awareness Week 2023 (March 13th to 19th).

The report represents important reading for all stakeholders to understand the differing perspectives and debates about the use of the term brain health and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in adopting a common terminology that encompasses all aspects of the prevention and treatment of brain-related conditions.
