New research published by the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) highlights significant gaps in neurology services ten years on from the publication of the National Model of Care for Neurology Services.
The report, based on a nationwide survey of neurology centres, a series of lived experience focus groups and interviews with neurospecialists highlights regional disparities, staffing deficits and gaps in multidisciplinary care across neurology services.
The report outlines a series of recommendations based on the findings and in line with the 2016 Model of Care for Neurology Services in Ireland
- Deliver equitable neurology services across the hospital network
- Address critical staffing shortages, particularly in specialist nursing and multidisciplinary teams
- Invest in neurorehabilitation and long-term community supports for people with neurological conditions
