The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) warmly welcomes the announcement by Minister for Disability Emer Higgins in today’s Budget of funding to support the development of two new Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Teams.
The announcement is particularly welcome in the context of NAI’s #MyNeuroRehabTeam campaign and our Budget 2027 call for the completion of the national rollout of community neuro-rehabilitation teams in line with the commitment within the current Programme for Government.
Community neuro-rehabilitation teams provide intensive multidisciplinary therapies to people with a wide range of neurological conditions, part of the framework of hospital, community and long term neurorehabilitation services outlined in the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy. Our call in the lead up to Budget 2027 was to honour the pledge by Government to complete the national rollout and tackle the regional inequity in access to these vital teams.
We welcome this investment and look forward to full details of the announcement. In the meantime we wish to extend a warm thanks to Minister Higgins and her staff in the Department of Children, Disability and Equality and to HSE personnel for their commitment in recognising and responding to this need.
We pay tribute to our member organisations, local lived experience advocates, local representatives and everyone who has shown their support to ensure that everyone who needs to can access a community neurorehabilitation team.
