Neurological Alliance of Ireland Welcomes Delivery of HSE Community Neurorehabilitation Team for South Dublin and Wicklow
The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI), the national umbrella of 40 neurological charities, warmly welcomes the news that the HSE Community Neurorehabilitation Team for South Dublin and Wicklow is now up and running, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of essential neurorehabilitation services for people living with neurological conditions in the region.
This development represents the culmination of sustained collaboration between the NAI, local patient advocates and their families, and local patient organisations who have worked tirelessly over recent years to highlight the urgent need for accessible community-based neurorehabilitation services.
Speaking today, Magdalen Rogers, CEO of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland, said:
“The establishment of the South Dublin and Wicklow Community Neurorehabilitation Team is a landmark step forward for people living with acquired neurological disability throughout this region, We are proud to have worked alongside local advocates and our member organisations to help make this service a reality. I want to acknowledge the strong support from local elected representatives and staff within the HSE at both local and national level as everyone was committed to making this service happen for local patients and families.
This news comes on the back of last week’s Budget which saw Minister for Disability Hildegarde Naughton announce funding to deliver further community neurorehabilitation teams across the country in response to the commitment within the current Programme for Government to complete the nationwide rollout of these teams.
Over 50,000 people in Ireland each year are diagnosed with a neurological condition. Community neurorehabilitation teams play a vital role in supporting people to rebuild their lives after a neurological event or diagnosis, helping them to achieve their fullest potential and live as independently as possible in their communities.
